About

I'm a creative engineer/technologist  working on innovation in virtual and realtime production, immersive experiences, software development, creative AI, mixed reality, interactive installations and generative ai solutions. Always aiming to bring a bit of wonder, play and magic to the world.

 

I have 10+ years commercially focused experience with games engines and realtime interactive development (Unreal/Unity/WebXR). Including working on projects for major brands, studios and partners.  Before that I had a background in technical, creative, R&D and skills roles crossing film, broadcast, live events & interactive media.

I currently work as Innovation Manager at the Mediacity Innovation Hub focused on enhancing the future of immersive experiences, virtual production, and gaming technology, through the creation of inspiring new services, products, content, and applications with businesses in the North West UK.

Previously have worked at Crucial FX as a Creative Technologist, doing innovation across brand experienes with projection mapping, tracking systems, interactive installations, immersive experiences and live events technology. I have previously worked as creative producer at Pathway (an LED Virtual Production Volume in Manchester), a senior R&D Creative Technologist at Draw and Code  where I worked with a number of partners and as a Product Director at a pioneering start-up called the TMRW foundation, (building a brand new 3D web engine and several immersive tech products and patented applications). As well as doing other freelance work and consultancy for brands, studios, universities and companies. 

 

I have led teams of developers & engineers, UX designers and 3D artists working on a new games engines and hardware products, data/ai innovations and immersive experiences. I have also had R&D/senior teaching roles in several Universities working on commercial research projects and developing pioneering courses in emerging tech, digital screen technology and immersive content production.

I try to support others as best I can, and founded and co-direct the Immersive Liverpool Network, working with companies, talent and organisations developing immersive innovation in the North West UK, with whom I have developed several projects, fundraising collaborations, events and initiatives. I sit on the Liverpool LEP Digital Board as an ambassador for future talent and regional development in emerging technology and also run a number of events, including the Immersive Storytelling Experiences conference.

 

In 2014, I started the pioneering Immersive Storylab as an R&D collective to explore the potential of mixed & augmented reality storytelling, with whom I still collaborate with on several projects in mixed reality. In 2020  I was made part of the BIMA 100 in the 'Creatives and Designers' category, an award that recognises 100 people for leading on ideas, products and services in the creative digital industries.

My work includes commissions, consultancy & R&D collaboration with organisations such as UNESCO, BBC, ITV, Aardman Animations, Google, Intel, BT, Granada TV, United Nations, Avid, NHS, JISC, the FA, Sport England, Virgin, Monster, IBM, Costa as well as work with a SMEs,Museums & Cultural Organisations. I have also led and developed a number of funded research and development projects with organisations such as the AHRC, Innovate UK, Arts Council, Heritage Lottery, Digital Catapult, UNDP, HEFCE and JISC. 

I am also a Fellow of the Royal Society of the Arts (FRSA) and a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (FHEA) as well as being a partner & dad , a guitarist and a chinese rock star.
